KATIE and Christy Peacock met while working in advertising.
Their strengths in business and creativity came into good use when renovating a three-bedroom Edwardian house at 14 Dryden Street, Elwood, where Mr Peacock designed the cabinets and decking. The couple felt strongly about their vision for the finished product. "To us it was really important that the renovation was sympathetic with the rest of the house. We didn't want to get into the kitchen and dining area and to feel that it's out of character. Each room's got the open fireplaces. It's got the original character," Mrs Peacock says. A unique continental touch forms a centrepiece between the kitchen and living area. "We'd found these 19th-century French doors. They're actually from an apartment in Paris and we just fell in love with them. So we bought the doors and designed the living space around the doors . . . They've still got the original etched glass in them," she says. With two young daughters, Rosie and Ruby, the couple treasure the location's quiet sense of community. "Dryden Street is unusual in that they have the annual Christmas party in the street . . . It wasn't on our list of priorities, but it was a lovely surprise," Mrs Peacock says. Chisholm & Gamon Property will auction the house on Saturday, quoting between $840,000 and $890,000.
