Decision Imminent On Pulp Mill

THE Environment Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has promised a decision this week on the controversial Tasmanian pulp mill. Mr Turnbull said his decision on whether to approve the mill would reflect the recommendations of the Government's Chief Scientist, Jim Peacock, which were contained in a report handed to him last Monday. But he refused to reveal those recommendations.

Critics of the mill have raised concerns about effluent that would be pumped into the Bass Strait if it were to go ahead.

A court challenge is likely from either green groups or Gunns, the company behind the mill - whichever is on the losing side.
